Mutli-Culti
Multi-Culti – the quintessence of Zabinki. Multi-Culti activities are run in the second half of the camp and consist of two parts.

show

During the first part the participants from each country set up stall(s), on which they display a variety of items brought from their own countries: goodies, beverages (also alcohol), folders, postcards and gadgets of all sorts. The stalls are decorated with flags and folk costumes. The choice of goodies is not limited to crackers bought at the airport, but also cakes, soups, pancakes, pies and pastas prepared especially for the occasion. It's not a surprise that the first part of Multi-Culti is also about tasting. National alcoholic beverages are conducive to a jolly and cheerful atmosphere and initiates discussions on the attitudes and traditions connected with alcohol consumption in different countries.

For many of us the spaghetti prepared at Multi-Culti in 2007 was the best we have ever eaten. It was worth the (long) wait! At midnight, Italians from the Torino group entered the clubroom with a huge pan of spaghetti with cheese, oil and garlic. Everyone tucked in, and it was yet again proof of how the previous several days have served to unify people representing different cultures, who were happy to share a meal together and enthuse about its exquisite taste and aroma. That night the entire camp howled in delight!

The second part of Multi-Culti consists in the free-style presentations of countries. representatives of a given country have total freedom in choosing the form of their show – they also bear the exclusive responsibility for it. There have been presentations in Power Point, songs, national dances or short stage performances. What matters most is the idea and the quality of performance, not the form itself. Obviously, stage are deemed to be most successful , although in 2006 the Power Point presentation prepared by the sole representative of Belgium defeated, by the end of the performance, the Italian group.

Central themes of the performances are, in most cases, free associations with a given country, in many cases also stereotypes. It is amazing that people can laugh at stereotypes of their own nations and laugh at themselves. Therefore, Russians – drunk, but merry and talented, strolling around Moscow arm in arm with polar bears; Germans – with beer and sausage; Romanians – portrayed as vampires; and Italians, who never stop talking and gesticulating; the list goes on. Multi-Culti proves that, given appropriate conditions such as trust and acceptance, everyone is capable of displaying huge creative potential that can surprise even those, who have seen it all before.

Part of Multi-Culti is our own Eurovision-style contest. National teams vote for four best performances (they cannot vote for their own). Everyone follows subsequent votes, and at the end of this sometimes 6-hour contest the winners are announced and we can start a party with national music.
